Today we have a team near Bursa in Turkey. We are travelling around introducing the captive bolt stunner to slaughterhouses still unfamiliar with the idea of rendering cattle, sheep and goats unconscious during slaughter so that conditions are less cruel. We show them what a stunner looks like, how it works and why it is important to reduce suffering. We are also going to slaughterhouses that have heard about our work or visited another slaughterhouse that is using one of our stunners, that requested we come to them to help out. This morning we were at slaughterhouse Et Ba illustrating how stunners work. They now know what a stunner looks like and how to use it. We have told them to contact us if they are ready to make the switch. They will discuss internally. They are all largely in favour but in Turkey it is not easy to take the right decision as some people revolt, saying stunning is not halal. Which is not true but a cultural bias.
